Description

A moist and flavorful date nut bread packed with chopped dates and walnuts, perfect for tea time or as a sweet treat. Easy to prepare with simple ingredients.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease a 4×8″ loaf pan.
  2. Combine dates and baking soda in bowl, pour boiling water over mixture. Let cool.
  3. Blend melted butter and sugar until combined. Add egg and mix until smooth.
  4. Strain date water into mixing bowl (discard sediment). Stir to combine.
  5. Gradually add flour, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in soaked dates and nuts.
  7. Pour batter into pan and bake 55-60 minutes (toothpick test).
  8. Cool in pan 10 minutes before transferring to wire rack.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container.
  • Can be served warm or at room temperature.
