Description

Learn how to make incredibly creamy garlic butter mashed potatoes, a classic comfort food side dish perfect for any meal. This recipe uses Yukon Gold potatoes for a naturally buttery and smooth texture, enhanced with sautéed garlic and rich butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup heavy cream, warmed
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh chives or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add the quartered Yukon Gold potatoes and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. While the potatoes are cooking, heat a small skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of the butter and the minced garlic. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and just golden, being careful not to burn the garlic. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. When the potatoes are done, drain them well in a colander. Return the drained potatoes back to the pot and let them steam dry for about 2 minutes. This helps to achieve a fluffy texture.
  4. Add the sautéed garlic (with any remaining oil) and the rest of the softened butter to the potatoes. Begin mashing with a potato masher or a ricer for an ultra-smooth texture.
  5. Gradually pour in the warmed heavy cream while continuing to mash until you reach your desired creaminess.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Transfer the creamy garlic butter mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped fresh chives or parsley for a touch of color and freshness.
  8. Serve warm as the perfect side to your favorite dishes!

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, use a potato ricer.
  • Ensure potatoes are fork-tender but not mushy for the best results.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic to your preference.
  • Warm the heavy cream to prevent cooling down the potatoes.
