Description
Learn how to make incredibly creamy garlic butter mashed potatoes, a classic comfort food side dish perfect for any meal. This recipe uses Yukon Gold potatoes for a naturally buttery and smooth texture, enhanced with sautéed garlic and rich butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup heavy cream, warmed
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Fresh chives or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large pot, add the quartered Yukon Gold potatoes and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- While the potatoes are cooking, heat a small skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of the butter and the minced garlic. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and just golden, being careful not to burn the garlic. Remove from heat and set aside.
- When the potatoes are done, drain them well in a colander. Return the drained potatoes back to the pot and let them steam dry for about 2 minutes. This helps to achieve a fluffy texture.
- Add the sautéed garlic (with any remaining oil) and the rest of the softened butter to the potatoes. Begin mashing with a potato masher or a ricer for an ultra-smooth texture.
- Gradually pour in the warmed heavy cream while continuing to mash until you reach your desired creaminess.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Transfer the creamy garlic butter mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped fresh chives or parsley for a touch of color and freshness.
- Serve warm as the perfect side to your favorite dishes!
Notes
- For a smoother texture, use a potato ricer.
- Ensure potatoes are fork-tender but not mushy for the best results.
- Adjust the amount of garlic to your preference.
- Warm the heavy cream to prevent cooling down the potatoes.
