Description

Easy Chicken Shawarma Tower Baked in the Oven for Flavorful Family Meals

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Chicken Thighs
  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 2 teaspoons Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1 small Red Onion
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Sumac

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine Greek yogurt, freshly squeezed lemon juice, finely grated garlic, paprika, ground cumin, oregano, red pepper flakes, ground cinnamon, and salt. Mix until well blended.
  2. Place the chicken thighs into the marinade, ensuring each piece is fully coated. Allow them to marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight for more intense flavor.
  3. Slice the onion into thick rounds to create a stable base for your tower. Stack the marinated chicken thighs atop the onion, creating a visually stunning tower formation.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the assembled tower on a baking sheet and bake for approximately 1 hour, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and is beautifully golden brown.
  5. While the chicken is baking, mix together thinly sliced red onion, additional lemon juice, ground sumac, and a pinch of salt. This fresh topping will complement the shawarma perfectly.
  6. Once the chicken has rested for a few minutes, slice it into pieces and serve it warm, generously topped with the fresh onion mixture for an added crunch.

Notes

  • Marinating overnight enhances flavor.
