Description

Cheesy Stuffed Meatball Subs are a comforting and delicious meal, featuring juicy meatballs with a gooey cheese center, smothered in marinara sauce, and served in toasted hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)
  • Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cheese filling: In a medium bowl, mix together 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Make the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, eggs, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  3. Stuff the meatballs: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Take about 2 tablespoons of the meatball mixture and flatten it in the palm of your hand. Place a teaspoon of the cheese filling in the center, then wrap the meat around the filling into a ball shape, ensuring the cheese is completely enclosed. Repeat for all the mixture.
  4. Bake the meatballs: Place the stuffed meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and nicely browned.
  5. Prepare the hoagie rolls: While the meatballs are baking, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Toast them lightly in the oven or on a skillet until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the subs: Slice the cooked meatballs in half to reveal the gooey cheese filling. Place a few meatballs into each toasted hoagie roll. Spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs, then top with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Melt the cheese: Place the assembled subs back in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the mozzarella cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use a blend of beef and pork for the meatballs.
  • Ensure the cheese filling is completely sealed within the meatballs to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Adjust the amount of marinara sauce and cheese according to your preference.
  • Consider adding sautéed onions or peppers for extra flavor.
